Navy allows storage company to sell nurse's personal belongings while she's deployed.

If the dude that sold her stuff was really that sorry, he should cough up some of the $$$ he made reselling her belongings. I watch that show Storage Wars and have often wondered what circumstances led people to abandon their storage units...this puts that into a new light.

I disagree. The man who sold the stuff did absolutely nothing wrong. The fact that he gave back what little of her stuff remained was plenty generous on his part. He paid for it after all. If there was wrong doing involved with the sale, it was by the auction/storage company(s), though with how ****ed up Personal Property and PSD are, I doubt they ever got the memo that she was on deployment and protected by SCRA as stated in the article.

The real problems are Personal Property and PSD. The fact that every single local office can have a different interpretation of regulations spelled out in black and white (JFTRs), along with the power to act on said interpretation, is apalling. Many of the personnel leave much to be desired. I could sum up all of the ones I've met in person as lazy and evasive, though polite. In the interest of not sounding completely jaded, a lot of my dealings with them have gone smoothly. Though with how easy you'd think it should be to verify that a travel claim is correct and pay it out expeditiously, I give them little credit for their success.

He may have done nothing wrong, but I think he may be missing an opportunity to do something right. He made a great business decision based on the facts at the time, but I for one would have trouble watching Green Bay get smashed on my new 60" while the lady was crying in my driveway.

Respectfully disagree, he did nothing wrong. ALL blame/restitution should be upon the U. S. Government, & the GS-2.5s & Supervisors responsible for the idiotic decision... canned!:(

Totally agree but I hate to say that this type of "support" is common at Personal Property these days.

The civilians have ZERO interest in actually providing any type of support to the service member. I've complained about piss poor service and even wrote a letter before but it was all for naught.

Until Uncle Sam starts holding our support staff accountable for actually providing support these types of incidents will continue with no reprecussions to the incompetent, lazy or stupid.

Everyone knows my feelings WRT DPS/PPO/TMO/etc., so it should come as no surprise that I'm not the least bit shocked by this story. In fact, I'm only shocked that it's (presumably) an isolated incident.

Definitely not the storage company's problem. They're a business. It is the Navy's. Fine. Policy changes. She went to Okinawa, not Jupiter. She can be reached. Some lazy bureaucrat stops paying this bill and thinks nothing's going to happen? Does it even cross his mind that this affects somebody, and that person at least needs the option of paying the bill until she gets back? A global search for her e-mail might've taken the better part of a minute, maybe two. That's certainly too much time to spend in order to save most of someone's earthly possessions.

It's okay, DPS is going to fix all of this. Riiiiiight.

Thanks to the "hands-off" approach of DPS, I'm still working on a claim for a PCS I executed in May.

My guess is that even this won't be enough to fire the GS who caused this cluster... In fact the office responsible is most likely jam packed full of people who are all scrambling to explain why this wasn't their fault and why making sure this stuff doesn't happen isn't their job.

I think most of us have dealt with personal property and the complete number of morons that inhabit that place. I will say I have never seen anything as bad as the personal property in Norfolk, Virginia.
