Having lost the information to my ASTB testing center during the Isabel power losses, I had to scramble to find it again today since I have to take it tomorrow...

What follows is my conversation 5 minutes ago with several unnamed officer recruiting offices.

Actually, the first was an enlisted recruiting office.

Recruiter: "World's Finest Navy, recruting office."
%0: "Hi, I need the number to the area's officer recruiting center, please."
R: "Well, hold on. What're you interested in?"
%0: "Excuse me?"
R: "Is there something I can help you with?"
%0: "I don't think so, I need to speak to them directly please."
R: "Well, maybe I can help you. What career field are you interested in?"
%0: "Okay...Aviation."
R: "Great, I can definately help you out there. What's your name?"
%0: (pause) "Uhh, you don't understand, I need to speak to them about an ASTB."
R: "ASTB?"
%0: "Yes, the Aviation Selectee Test Battery."
R: "Is that like the ASVAB? What officer program were you say you were interested in?"
%0: "OCS."
R: "Oh, okay. What career field?"
%0: "Aviation."
R: "That's great. The Navy has plenty of exciting opportunities in aviation. So, when did you graduate high school."
%0: "Uhh, I'm sorry. I'm already enlisted and have been for about 4 years, I just need the number to an officer recruiting center, please."
R: "Okay, just a sec (paper rustling)...nope, I don't have that information here. Tell you what, why don't you give us a call back tomorrow and I'll see what I can do for you."
%0: (slams down reciever)

...an hour later

Recruiter B: "World finest..."
%0: "Hi, is this the Officer Recruiting center?
R: "Uh, yeah! We're the only one in Maryland."
%0 "O..kay. I see. Well, my name is ... and I need to confirm my ASTB test date and time."
R: "Don't you already have that information?"
%0: "Yes, but I'm afraid I lost it."
R: "Okay...(long pause). What was your name again?"
%0: ...
R: "...and who did you want to speak to?"
%0: "No one in particular, I needed to check my test date."
R: "Okay...Well, the folder with all the test times are at the front desk and there's no one there right now. Could you call back tomorrow?"
%0: (thinks to self, "Why in the #$#@! can't you look yourself?!) "I'm pretty sure my test *is* tomorrow, so I'd prefer if I could find out today.
R: (another pause) Okay, you're scheduled for tomorrow.
%0: Great. What time do I need to be there?
R: (exasperated sigh) Didn't someone tell you all this before?
%0: Yes...but I said I lost all my information.
R: Fine...(finally gives me the rundown.)

The moral of my story is, never, EVER lose your test center information, or you will incur the awesome wrath of the Navy recruiter and their mighty phone tactlessness.
