Naval Aviators flying as passengers

This is a crazy question but I was wondering if anyone knew an answer. Within being a naval aviator do pilots get some type of service, be it military or commercial, where they get to fly as a passenger to some place in the U.S. for a discount or free. I know this might sound a little confusing...but for example, if a naval aviator wanted to go and visit some family in california for a holiday and he was stationed in Norfolk, VA. would he be able to get some type of benefit and fly for a discount or free, being that he is a military pilot. Once again I know this might sound like an out of ordinary question, but I was just curious. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Being a naval aviator, along with $3.50 might get you a cafe latte at Starbucks. You can either get a MAC flight through the military or find out what major airline is giving military discounts and make arrangements through them. US Airways is offering a great military rate until 31 Dec 03.

Thanks for the response, but what exactly is a MAC flight through the military. Is it some discount flight or is it free of charge to members of the military.

Military members and their families can fly free on all MAC, now called AMC flights but you fly on a space available basis. It isn't not as dependable as the airlines so you may need some extra time if your flight breaks or goes somewhere else. Still not a bad way to fly, infact I am flying space A to Florida next week for a little vactation and it won't cost me a dime

AMC (Air Mobility Command) flights are Air Force flights. Everyday AF airplanes such as KC10's 135's, C5s, C130s, ect travel throughout the states and the world. If one of these flights are going where you want to go, you can catch a ride if you are on leave. You can find out about these flights through various passenger terminals at any military base with an air strip. It is free, you only have to pay for your lunch.

Thanks for the responses, Is there any other way to view the flight schedules of the AMC Flights besides going to the base. For example is there a number to call or a place on the internet to see if a AMC at a specific place like somewhere in pensacola has flights to ...say the naval base in San Diego, and on what days and times these flights are offered.

You can use AMC - I did quite a bit when on active duty. Went 3 times to Australia, 3 times to Germany, and once to England. However, airfare prices are now so low that it is a better bet to buy the ticket and conserve your leave days. Don't forget, if you need to, yo can stay at bases overseas for about $15 a night - which will save you big bucks compared to hotels in some countries.
