Talking about NCIS...when I was a stashed Ensign at ERAU, a guy from Nigeria faxed the unit's XO a 7 page document on a very interesting topic. It was 7 handwritten pages with detailed drawings on how to build a thermonuclear bomb using cold fusion. We promptly forwarded it to NCIS. Apparently he was trying to prove how smart he was so nrotc and ERAU would accept him....

Evidently bucking for a Tweedale scholarship.

And isn't VMFAT-101 a Marine FRS squadron? Isn't he a "naval officer." I think the last time the Sharpshooters trained Navy and Marine pilots together was when the Navy got rid of its F-4 RAG and the Navy guys had to train on F-4's with the Marines.

Correction

This guy graduated from UCLA in 2000, and then went to flight training in P-cola.
Designated as a Naval Aviator in 2002. From what I remember, he said that it took him 2 years to get through the F/A-18 RAG (2004)



Can anyone tell me what a 28 year old F/A-18 pilot would have when it comes to flight hours and assignments?

And what grade/rank would a 28 year old guy be in the Navy?


I want to give this guy a chance to fess up, before I report him out to NCIS

Next time you see him, just ask a few simple questions that he should know according to that info he gave you. Like bases he was stationed, etc. I'd also call NCIS or whoever you can get to actually listen.

There's no such thing as a "part-time new-guy instructor who moonlights at Washington Mutual as a loan officer because he has so much free time." He's a tool. Give him one opportunity to come clean and drop the whole thing, then drop kick his a$$ into the next zip code if he sticks to it. Better friends have paid a higher price than he'll ever know. Hey, maybe this guy and Lt. Whatshisnuts can get a web page together. Both of them seem to be impersonating a military officer.

To the original poster. It doesn't matter how old he is. That point is irrelevant. What you need to understand is if this guy got commissioned in 1998 (like I did), then he would have put on LT back in '02 (like I did) and would be eligible for LCDR next spring. There's some serious flaws in his story. Just ask him straight up if he is a naval officer. If he says yes, ask to see the ID. If he refuses or gives you some story about not keeping it on him, report him ASAP. If you don't want to report him, I will.

I was a 28 year old Ensign - I've got him beat (but I was also an enlisted guy for 8 years). There are no "reserve fighter pilots in training" that part-time life as loan officers. UCMJ doesn't allow for wearing designations/insignia/decorations just because you're dissatisfied with your real job (wildly assuming he's even in the Navy). Two sets of gold wings later, I'll kick anyone's a$$ wearing something I know I've earned and they haven't.

VMFAT-101 Sharpshooters from MCAS Miramar jointly train Navy and USMC pilots in the F/A-18. I've flown with them off the Stennis during a CQ det.
