Let's say your were setting up a party, and wanted to give a tip-of-the-hat to Naval/Marine Aviation. What songs are appropriate?
Instrumental stuff from WWII? Korea? Modern? Is there anything that fits the bill?
Again, not hokey stuff,... honest "Naval Aviation Music".

You mean besides the Top Gun movie soundtrack?

I suppose you could do the general purpose WWII patriotic swing music thing...

Pick from the old standards, ones everyone recognizes, loves, and can identify.

Lots of downloadable stuff. Here is a brief start:

For the love of god, don't use this:

any song by Dos Gringos. They may be Air Force viper drivers, but it doesn't get more aviation centric than that

Including the one about only wanting to , not landing on one because it's "super easy" in their opinion ("you never have a crosswind and you never have to flare")?

I do admit I like the "JDAM Blues" and the "I'm A Pilot" song for laughs.

You didn't mention Vietnam, but still ... Vietnam WAS the Rock & Roll War ....

Anything by CCR, i.e., FORTUNATE SON, BAD MOON RISING, RUN THROUGH THE JUNGLE, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN ...

Also songs like: 500 MILES, LEAVING ON A JET PLANE, PAINT IT BLACK (actually most anything from the period by the Stones), YELLOW RIVER, BORN IN THE USA (a little late, but still to the point), THE NIGHT THEY TORE OLD DIXIE DOWN, GALVESTON, REVOLUTION, PEACE TRAIN, WAR (what is it good for), SKY PILOT, and of course, WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE ...

Oh, yeah -- "Feel I'm fixin' to die rag" -- some lyrics to wit:

Yeah, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

(Chorus)

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Stuff like that ... :)

"Yakety Sax" (a.k.a. the theme song from "The Benny Hill Show") pretty much sums up any Naval Aviation evolution.
