NAMI Paperwork Delay!

My recruiter just called me and said my flight physical has not been processed from NAMI because the person who normally types all the reports up, left and the new person is behind.

They said I can still go to OCC - 197 but I go knowing I am Air secretly pretending to be ground, and then once my recruiter gets my flight paperwork back while I am at OCS I go back to officially being air...

Has anyone else, going to 197 heard anything else like this!?

That just sounds Deceptive to me. I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't go until I had Air written down and signed.

The thing is, I have already signed my air contract...they are not asking me to sign a ground contract.

My OSO is going to call NAMI tomorrow and see what more he can find out, I was wondering if anyone else has heard about this because I went with about 12-15 other guys that week all for OCC 197, and if this is true for me then it would be true for them

Its a delicate process and a lot of things have to happen in concert in order to work out. Sometimes when things are last minute they have to kind of monkey things around. This doesnt sound so much like something that is being done to fool you, but just to make it work out.

If your contract is air, how are you gonna secretly go to OCS as ground? They will see you paperwork as soon as you get there. Who are you trying to deceive at OCS by saying you are ground? Sounds effed up to me.

A few weeks is assuming everything goes perfect in the process. Trust me, it won't. NAMI didn't do much over the break and it appears it's taking a while to get spooled up again.

Feenix - I believe I was down at NAMI with you (first week of Dec) and I am still waiting for final approval as well. My recruiter told me that b/c it's not offical approval I will go as a ground contract (not secret gorund) and once the approval comes through they will switch me back to air, no questions asked. The recruiter said I will know if I'm approved by the time I'm commissioned so I can always pull out if I don't want to go ground.

But I dont think you can be an air contract and then get the air contract taken away and suddenly be ground. A ground contract isnt something that you settle for if you want it. It seems like they would have to "pretend" that everything is ok with your flight physical and then just hope it works out while your at OCS. If it does, no problem. If theres something wrong, then what?

Is this the sergeant who worked processing the flight physicals down in Pensacola? Because when I was there for my physical a month or so ago, he had told us he was leaving and that something like this would happen. My paperwork went through fine though.

Hey guys, sorry to threadjack but just wondering if you could answer me a question real quick. I'm headed to OCS in February with an air contract. I was under the impression that NAMI was inbetween OCS and API down in P-Cola, but that sounds inaccurate reading your posts. Do you do all the NAMI stuff in Newport, while in OCS?? Sorry again for ther threadjack.

HallerB - Yes, this is the Sgt who said he was leaving, and yes, he did indeed leave, and I was told literally the same thing you were told.

Slammer, I agree with what you are saying, which is why I am a little concerned about this situation.

At least I now have confirmed that this is a true story. I was able actually to get through to P-Cola yesterday and they told me that the new person has caught up but it has to go through two more people before the report is returned to our respective OSO's office. They told me it should be done before we leave next week.

I am hoping to find out more today, but while I believe this story to be true, I also know you can not have an air contract if all your flight paperwork is not completed prior to OCS. Yes, it is possible to switch back while at TBS but I would really rather avoid having to go through that hassle.

Once I know more, I will let you all know more...thank you for responding...

First of all, OCS does not have air contracts. You have a designator of SNA.

As for NAMI, it has changed since OCS has moved. During OCS, you spend all of the first Monday and sometimes Tuesday doing medical and dental processing. When OCS was in Pensacola, SNA, SNFO, SEAL and a few other designators would go to NAMI. Since Newport is the new location of OCS, you can not do NAMI. You will do all the same medical processing. When checking into API you will not have to do the full physical all over again.
