I went with a XD9 sub compact. No gripes though I wish I would have gone with a .40 or .45. Granted I am sure it will not have any issue stopping someone unless they are hopped up on some bath salts or something.

Meh, modern day ammo makes the 9mm a totally viable self-defense round. Gold Dot or HST 124+p or 147gr is my primary choice for carry. I have some Gold Dot 115 +p+ and Ranger 127 +p+ as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the .45 ACP, still my favorite handgun round but no worries with nmy 9's. I have an XDM45 and had an XD9 sub compact, great gun as I put over 6000 rounds through it with one failure that I could blame on the gun.

IMG_0445.jpg I said I would add a pic of my Mk12 Mod1 when I got the suppressor in. I've had the Ops-Inc suppressor for about 9 months now. It's fairly quiet for 5.56 and built like a tank. I thought the 3 suppressors and SBR that I have in limbo would be ready for me to pick up after I got back from deployment, but no joy. It seems the wait times on NFA stuff has continued to go up.IMG_0535.jpg

I still have a BCM factory 11.5" SBR and a SilencerCo Sparrow in jail. I applied for the stamps in the April time frame so hopefully I'll be liberating them soon. My SilencerCo Saker 556 should arrive at my local dealer in the next couple of weeks. Then the wait begins all over again.

I hope the SilencerCo HW is as good as their slick videos.

Bring the heat....

My initial plan I posted in the "Questions" thread didn't really pan out, but as it turned out, I ended up getting with a guy local who had a plethora of Service Grades he was selling...and only about $50-100 more than CMP. So I went to see what he had. I found this:

1.37 million SA (Jan or Feb '43) with a 10/43 barrel. The wood is still a work in progress due to a huge split in the repro rear handguard and not having metal for the matching replacement front handguard. Obviously it needs a sling, too. It's all clean and greased. Probably won't get to fire it until I get back from leave.

Is "push feed" the new-speak for "bolt action"? Seriously, if there's a difference, I'm not aware...

A "post-64" Winchester is a push feed bolt, pre-64 is a "controlled round feed" bolt. The more recent Winchesters have a mauser type extractor, but in general if someone refers to it as "post-64", it is a push feed like the Remington 700. For a dangerous game rifle (Cape Buffalo, lion, elephant, etc) the connoisseur prefers a controlled feed action such as the pre-64 Win, Model 98 Mauser, BRNO ZKK or current CZ-550 action (
).

Plenty of guys up here (Alaska) like the Sako actions and they are more of a push feed than a controlled round feed. For the most part the difference only means something to serious gun loonies.

By the way, Gatordev, nice score on the Garand.

I could have sworn we had a NFA picture thread started by Rocketman, but I can't find it, so I guess this thread is good enough. She's about as correct as she's going to get. Optic, mount, no extra pin above the safety, and technically the suppressor are all not correct, but it's still plenty of fun to shoot.

And then there's this, which will get a little more of a workout after I PCS. Haven't shot it with the can on it yet, but without, it's nicely balanced.

I also played with my CA MK12 MOD 1 today. Jesus, that thing is accurate. I hate shooting for groups, but that thing certainly makes it more enjoyable

I hope to have a SOPMOD/SOCOM family portrait after I PCS back to a more friendly environment.

Also, my WWII Garand functioned flawlessly today. Didn't even have any "premature ejections" with the clips. One slight adjustment on the front sight and it was hitting the center of the target at 100 yards (probably more accurately than the shooter).

Man you're KILL'in me. My SBR and cans (Saker 5.56 and Sparrow) are still in jail. The SBR and Sparrow for another 30-45 days. The Saker won't make bail for many moons. I never did start an NFA thread.

Thanks for the video. While I can now say "I understand"…I guess I still don't really get it terms of shooter preference.
