My Latest Purchase (or just pictures of your current guns)

Many moons ago I used the same backpack for the range and an occasional business trip. I once showed up to CLT with a loaded 15 round G19 mag in a backpack pocket. I blissfully tried to go thru security and was busted of course. I was surprised to find out that after the rounds were confiscated TSA asked if I wanted the mag back. They gave me a form to fill out so they could mail the empty mag back to me. Sure enough a couple of weeks later I got the mag back. Not sure how the same situation would be handled today.

Man, than would have been nice when I forgot about a knife in my bag a few years ago. I lost a nice Gerber folding knife to TSA.

Many years ago I bought a really nice used LBT Assault pack from a member here. I needed a range bag and he was kind enough to sell it to me for pennies on the dollar (or maybe he gave it to me free...I can't remember). Since it was going to be a range bag, I wasn't too concerned, but he was an EOD guy who had used the pack operationally and did make the caveat that I "probably shouldn't take the bag through TSA. It's probably fine, but I can't guarantee it." Wise words.

I've flown with my original helmet bag multiple times while in the Navy while on TAD and needing my helmet. I've even had the material on the handles wiped down and scanned. I didn't have an issue then, but I always wondered the physics and chemistry of how much cordite or whatever else had to drift forward in the cabin during a GUNEX for it to finally register something on the bag. I'm sure trying to explain that to your typical TSA mouth breather wouldn't have been fun.

Been there, and it wasn’t fun! I mindlessly grabbed my old patrol pack for a quick weekend trip having forgotten it had at one point or another with everything from loaded magazines and grenades to C4 blocks and det cord not to mention the times I took it to the rifle range and tossed a bunch of brass and dunnage in the thing. Well, it rang up on the mechanical sniffer, that brought the dog (who loved the bag), and then a supervisor. Luckily I always carry my retiree ID. I made it to my flight and didn’t get pulled from the terminal, but it taught me a lesson - wash your gear!

I've always wondered what the threshold was for the sniffers. I keep my range bags and travel bags separate for exactly this reason.
