My Latest Purchase (or just pictures of your current guns)

I've been in the NFA game for a long time (back in the 12-18 month wait time era). Famous last words I know but have everything I need. My gun trust owns more than one can in each of 22, 5.56 and 30 calibers plus several SBRs to mount them on. My only NFA purchases this year probably will be my first short barreled shotgun (870?) and a couple more 22 cans. You can't have too many 22 cans. Of all the toys I own, I may have the most fun with my SBR'd Ruger Charger. It sports an 8in Feddersen barrel, a nice aftermarket trigger, a SilencerCo SS Sparrow and a folding stock. It's so quiet and accurate it makes you smile every time. Me thinks my next 22 cans will be a couple of Dead Air Masks

I dont get the whole "gun trust" thing - it seems like unnecessary paranoia about who has access or uses your stuff. Laws that while technically valid, the ATF would never enforce such technicalities unless there was a major crime committed. Like your spouse robbing a bank with your SBR or something - LOL!!!!

It’s more about estate planning- I don’t want my stuff held up in probate after I’m gone. Better to just identify the next trustee, and sign it over to them. Another benefit is they can legally keep it in their posession, which enhances flexibility (e.g. a trustee borrowing a suppressed hunting rifle, for example.)

Yea it's mostly about estate planning for me as well. I have 2 of my 3 children on the trust as trustees. When I'm gone it will be one less thing for them to worry about. They won't have to deal with the ATF at all unless they want to add some items.

Maybe when the demand slows down and if Florida does another tax holiday like they did in 2025, I'll grab a .22 can, but otherwise I'm good for now on the Form 4 side. My focus over the last year turned more towards LAMs.

However...I need to Form 1 this:

So that this has a correct Deployment Kit lower.

Impressive! I always thought M27 was unobtanium! How many times your mortgage payment did this set you back?

Then what is different then an ordinary family trust?

Specificity. Estate law varies by state, but for NFA items, they have to be specifically registered to an individual or a trust, with accompanying paperwork filed through the ATF. For that reason, it makes good sense to keep a gun trust separate from other assets so the BATFE only sees what the Settlor of the trust is legally obligated to show them. It’s nobody’s fucking business what other property and accounts I have.

It's made an appearance here before, but it's a clone. It's made up of a 416 parts kit that I built with a Marvin Pitts M27 clone barrel. He took someone's actual M27 barrel (they are out there) and recreated it. It is also stupid accurate. You can't get that guy to answer his emails, but he can make some amazing barrels. The lower is one of the old Brownell's HK forged lowers they were selling 5-6 years ago until they ran out of them. A few years ago I saw an actual M27 upper (all correct HK parts) for sale and it wasn't cheap, but not as bad as you'd expect given parts availability at the time.

The A5 is also a clone, although all the parts are HK A5 parts except the barrel. Someone was selling it a couple years ago and it was in mint condition for a very fair price. It also has a Pitts barrel. The guy selling it had the clone correct rail, but he wasn't selling that. Those are truly unobtanium nowadays...unless you find a Marine with sticky fingers...so I had to settle for the front-sight version, which annoys me when I see it.

Brownell's did a lot to jump start the 416 market in 2019 or so. Unlike Geissele who made all sorts of social media posts hinting at getting in the game only to, as usual, not deliver on time (or at all in this case). I think in part because of what Brownell's did for the market is why HK is now selling updated MR556s in the A5 configuration (they call it an A4 since it's not chrome-lined) in all kinds of size uppers AND as complete SBRs.

What seven said plus a gun trust allows multiple responsible parties (in this case my kids and girlfriend) to possess and use the firearms listed in the trust. I can allow my son to take an SBR and can to the range without me physically being there. If the items were in my name I'd have to be there for that to be legal. Trustee's can easily be added and deleted as well. Also upon my death the items remain in the Trust and don't have to be transferred to a new responsible person. Now if the ATF would do away with the 5320.20 requirement (permission to carry SBR's etc across state lines)..........

At the gun club I shoot at there is a whole cohort of dudes who go on and on about “the NFA is unconstitutional and I don’t have to follow it” (you all are likely familiar with the type). My reply is “good luck with that…”

Also in the same vain, said cohort says “POTUS is going to nullify the NFA through EO and abolish the BATF any day now”. I’m like, “how’s that working out for you?”

😆

They think an authoritarian is going to pass an EO to give himself less power? Yeah, good luck with that…
