MIDN Trip to Pcola/Jax

I'm a senior in the Jax ROTC and I'm planning a trip to Pensacola sometime in the spring with a small group (5 to 8) of mids to tour the flight school. We did this last spring and was able to get some simulator time, meet with studs and IPs, tour flight lines and ATC and just ask a lot of questions and gain overall exposure to the NA community in Pensacola.

I was hoping to reach out and ask if anyone has some contacts who'd be willing to show some middies around their squadron or flight line, or had some suggestions of things that we'd be able to do or see.

I'm also asking around to Mayport and Jax squadrons for tours and maybe some backseat flights. If anyone has any contacts in Jax or Pensacola who wouldn't mind impressing some mids with what they do, please forward me their information. Thank you!

Squadron PAOs are probably your best bet. I'm new to the VT world of instructing so I can't say with absolute certainty, but I don't think arranging something like that would be all that difficult.

Is this over your springbreak? If so, you should go drink beer and party instead.
It'd probably be the Mon and Tue of spring break with plenty of time to head down to Daytona for the rest. I'm not sure about the others, but I get my fair share of beer drinking at the Jax beach bars during the other 51 weeks of the year.

That may be true, but since you said this is your Senior Year then this will be your last Spring Break EVER. Go enjoy it. While your initiative is to be applauded, you'll be doing this stuff for real in a year and be wishing you were on Spring Break. And if not next year, I guarantee in 2-5years when you're deployed somewhere crappy you'll really wish you were at Spring Break.

Pags is wise. Enjoy the fun. Once you get on the pain train, there arent a lot of weeks to just party with no responsibilities.

True. It's easy to get antsy to graduate and take the three day weekends and college life part of ROTC for granted.

Cameron,

PM me. By then I should be nearly through Primary. I'll help you as much as I can by talking face to face with anybody you have already had contact here with. Let me know if I can help. Currently though, I'm just about done with API.

I fully understand getting antsy. I felt the same way when I was in your shoes, but don't worry: the fleet will still be there. College is only a few more months and then it's off to the real world and responsibility.

If you're burnt out on the bar scene go somewhere else when leave isn't charged and you're not worried about the next flight. Go backpacking, whitewater rafting, go build houses in latin america, there'll be more than enough Navy in the future.

May I recommend skiing in some place like Colorado as the un-Jax Beach for Spring Break? That said, if you must come out to Pensacola, we've got some decent beaches and bars and college girls who show up for spring break. It's not Daytona, but it's ok. So you can get a couple hours of the flight school Navy then get on with spring break.

Which won't be much.

Who should tell you to stop worrying about Mids (unless they are hot) and get back to studying. Especially if you want "the one with the afterburner"
Currently though, I'm just about done with API.
Seriously. Go study.

Haha. I was thinking the same thing. Just finished API and already wanting to give tours of Primary?

So, wanting to be able to help out someone who is your friend and others behind you is frowned upon? Now, I REALLY know why things aren't what they once were...

If things were really old school, you'd take him out to the Squadron Bar after showing him around, then to the OClub to get beers with the XO/CO and shoot dice. Now he can look tour the VT spaces, see Sherman/North Field, then go home. Just go to the beach and enjoy what little no responsibility time you have left.
