MGI BILL FUTURE Question

I was reading this:

http://www.military.com/news/article/debt-ceiling-vote-has-mil-pay-in-crosshairs.html

With talks of possible pay halts for active duty service members, what are the predictions for people using the GI-bill like myself right now? Obviously active duty service member pay is more important but this had crossed my mind since I'm starting grad school in the Fall and using my GI-Bill.

I believe the answer is within the article. Is your GI-Bill necessary for government operations or DoD? Nope, so if I was you I would prepare to not receive anything... Remember your military training? Prepare for the worst and hope for the best... Well here you go! ;)... I truly hope I am wrong but I don't think GI-Bill benefits fall in any protected category... Good Luck!

Everyone chill. We've had four federal government shutdowns in the last 30 years and not once has military pay been affected. Every time this issue comes up, doom and gloom is forecast in the media (and the local rumor mill) and it never comes to pass. I'm not saying that it's impossible, just without historical precedent.

I'm glad I'm graduating in about 5 weeks to avoid this uncertainty. The Chapter 33 GI Bill was amazing, by the way. It would really hurt to lose that BAH after getting used to it.

Sir,

He was questioning the chance of GI benefits being affected. Does GI benefits fall in line with military pay or is it a separate category. I believe this is the discussion Eagle is looking for... I could be wrong, as proven in the past, but I believe it is separate ;)...

Pulled this LINK from the MCPONs facebook this morning. Worst case scenario we keep earning pay, just don't receive it until the budget passes.

I understand that, but I'm giving you some perspective based on empirical evidence, not media-based fear mongering.
