Quick question for you,

A while back I posted about my long BUMED wait. Well I finally got a call from my OSO and he said theres a BUMED doctor coming down to Pendelton and I have an appointment to see him to get medically cleared for SNA USMC. If i have a dental cavity am I going to be disqualified? I havent gone to MEPS so this appointment with the BUMED doctor is my "MEPS." I just dont want to drive 2 hours to San Diego for my ONE CHANCE to get passed after 6 months of waiting and find out I cant get passed because of a cavity.

from what I understand, if you have enough teeth to get a cavity, you're good to go. If you have a cavity, you'll get it filled, but it is by no means going to permanently NPQ/DQ you. Calm down. You'll be fine.

Cavities are the least of the Navy's/Marine Corps concern. It shouldn't be a determining factor whether you're MEDICALLY qualified or not. To be honest, I don't think an MD can determine your dental qualification. On this note though, why don't you just get it taken care of?

Unless it's a HUGE cavity!

I had a small loos e fliiling re-drilled at Miramar once. I had an ACM hop that afternoon...if they used novacaine, I'd have been down for 24 hours.

I looked at the dentist and told him to just drill it. He did.

Not fun, but had a great hop that afternoon.

Im paranoid about this medical bs. When i first started my application process i was taking a medication. It took 6 months before BUMED got back to me about the mediation. My oso has only one air slot available. So I wanna get it asap. Haha i just dont want to get stuck for 6 more months and get that spot jacked in the meantime, waiting for a cavity to clear or somthing. thanks though

Listen. I had a blood condition when I was young (that was waiverable). If I had known beforehand how many conditions are DQ for pilot, I would have been FREAKING OUT before MEPS. Don't sweat the small stuff. A cavity is DEFINITELY a small thing. Even my blood condition temporarily NPQed me until I submitted a new blood test that showed me asymptomatic, then it all went through without any issues. Even if worst case the cavity was an issue, you'll just get it filled, checked again and you'll be good to go. It won't end your application, just delay it a little worst case. Relax....and have a drink.
