No one can access your medical records without your express written consent. You'll have a physical done at MEPS, and as a Marine aviation applicant, you'll also get a flight physical. If you lie about something in your medical history and they find out, you'll catch hell, but they can't go snooping around in your past medical files.

Navynurse, I don't recall seeing that, and I thought I read my application pretty thoroughly <scratching head>. I had to track down and make specific written requests for some of my medical records to be faxed to my recruiter and on to MEPS, and it was a pretty time consuming process. If I signed away my rights to all medical records, why did I have to go through all that trouble just for the docs at MEPS?

I remember signing to allow a search to be done on the security form, if there was a question of mental/psychological issues with an applicant.

In the EPSQ, you mean? Or the security summary form?

Not that it matters. I have nothing to hide. No, really...

not sure why they would take the time to go digging through medical records for no purpose, considering the massive number of poeple they're dealing with. from what i understand, that mostly happens if you "develop" something and they go back to investigate if you didnt divulge it in the first place. at least i hope that's how it works....otherwise how can i keep my sna spot with 5 prosthetic limbs?

Just say no to everything. Yes, there is a form you sign giving them permission to obtain medical records from your past. However, I have never heard of them checking. I have asthma and use to have allergies to everything under the sun but I didn't tell them about either one. They never caught it - never.

Sure. You think I am alone. I have a friend who is 1/16 Native American and put on his application that he was 100% AI so he would have a better shot. The guys flying Super Hornets right now. Do you think those allergies and asthma kept me from doing my job? My ability to run a 8:30 1.5 mile should answer that question.

corky, are you already in the Navy? If so I assume your asthma didn't give you problems at OCS or basic? (whichever it was you went through)

No, I am certainly not saying you are the only one. I met someone who attempted suicide and is an officer now. Usually, you just don't see people say it on any forum. To hear the forums, you would beleive no one ever lied and those that did are waiting to get out of the brig.
I am not judging anyone at all, was just making a comment.:)

I've been told by eye docs that LASIK is undetectable when done correctly - not that getting PRK bothers me or anything, LASIK would just be soo much easier....
