They don't carry loaded rifles. There are many videos online showing them going through rifle inspection ceremonies when changing the guard. Nor rounds being ejected when the bolts are drawn back.

Ceremonial M17's in use by the guards at Tomb of Unknown... wondering if carried loaded (I would think). Ceremonial M9's all retired at this point.

It goes without saying that if you have a chance, it is an awesome sight to view the Tomb of the Unknown and to witness the changing of the guard. Awesome is an overused pharse, but in this case accurate.

21 round extended magazine is the standard issue! Had same thought, but after researching, it appears all M17's as issued to Army troops use the 21 round magazine as default. T&E says each soldier gets 2 x 21 round magazines.

Wonder if SIG will ever start selling the M18 to the public. Right now it seems the 17 with a medium grip module is the only game in town outside the civvie P320 model.

I’m not horribly spun up to get one or the other, and I’m kind of “meh” about FDE in general. Still struck me as odd that they’re only selling the M17 to the public. Wonder if they’re just clobbered with DoD M18 orders.

Being active in competitive shooting sports in the summer months, black guns get hot, even when doing nothing else than sitting in the holster. I think FDE addresses this
