Lower back pain

Would a core muscle imbalance in the lower back DQ you for SNA/flight school?

Everytime I run my lower back begins to tighten up and spasm. I am currently in physical therapy for my core muscle imbalance but it doesn't seem to be helping much.

Input appreciated!

I know you're still young but have you had any type of imaging done to check for possible congenital abnormalities? Admittedly, I'm an old guy, but I've been fighting lower back pain for a long time. 15 years ago I had a CT scan that revealed mild bulging discs which the doc said were caused by weak lower back muscles and mild mis-alignment of the spine. I've gone through osteopathic treatments, chiropractic treatments, physical therapy and stretching, spinal decompression, AIRROSTI (google that one) and continued with my daily exercises during that time. The last year has been very painful. A month ago I finally went and got an MRI and the radiologist's report was almost two pages long listing congenital abnormalities, bulging discs, arthritis, mild scoliosis, and "severe left neural foraminal stenosis at L5/S1 with encroachment of the exiting left L5 nerve root". The first surgeon I was referred to said much of this I was born with and it has finally caught up with me and he is recommending surgery. I'm now scheduled for a second opinion appointment with a nerosurgeon to weigh my options. Not trying to scare you, but just give you an example of a possible problem area. Best of luck.

That core imbalance won't DQ you, but, the real issue here is what is causing the sparms??? Electrolyte imbalance? Most are more aware of this than in years past, but still a consideration.

Got access to a DO? Might be a few vertebrae are not quite as they should be.

I'm not quite sure if its an electrolyte imbalance. Doctor said nothing of it. How can I check?

I got an X-Ray and my vertebrae etc were fine.

Electrolyte imbalance usually occurs as a result of not hydrating properly. One of the symptoms can be muscle cramping.

Do you do any strengthening of the lower back muscles?

If Sciatica involved (lower back pain, isolated to one side, radiating through hip to knee and further)..... NPQ waiver NOT recommended (for winged aviator, if trying to get in fughidabahdit)

No MRIs for me for now.

Chiropractor seemed to help.

hey whip,
you a soccer player, by chance? if you have overly developed quads, and underdeveloped hammies, that can actually lead to lower back muscle spasms. don't ask me why...my brother had that issue. just a shot. good luck.
