I think this is the VR-1355 route, if my memory is correct. Great footage of a great airplane....
Roger that ... great footage of a great airplane, for sure.

But, having flown that route and several others in the area, you need to be @ eye level with the vehicles on Highway 90 while over the lake. I.e., if you're over 100" and under 450 KIAS ... you're just not doing it right. ;)

Soooooo ..... ^ THAT'S NOT a low level ... :D .... but THIS IS, Luzon-style:

Unfortunately, after a vehicular accident which was allegedly "caused" by low flying Prowlers circa 2001, low passes by I-90 on that route are now prohibited. :(

One more reason to select something that doesn't end in "Hornet . . ."

Yeah ... I remember that ... can't remember "when" .... and one of our guys got into trouble for "turning over" (??) a pickup truck w/camper on the notorious low level route between NUW and NFL.

Back-in-the-day .... there was one rest stop along the highway in southern Oregon/northern Nevada where the wives who were making the journey down to Fallon for the weapons det would park ... 3-4 vehicles gathered at the prearranged time ... whereupon a 4-plane heading south would make their day with a 50', 500 KIAS "hi, honey ... how are you .. " ... blow-by ... bye, bye .... :)

Another Whidbey bomber tradition ... *sigh* ... gone. ;)

It stinks that Naval Aviation has moved past a time when everything was advisory in nature. I have a photo taken by a wingman of my B/N and I flying up the Nile River at about 50 feet. I guess that's probably prohibited today as well.

Boy, that's just a bummer about the new restrictions. The last time I flew the VR-1355 was in December, 1992, and we just happened to 'get lost' and managed to find out where we were by flying past Steven's Pass ski resort and then making multiple passes at low and lower altitudes to ensure we could confirm it (so we could get back on course, of course).

Yeah, that would be frowned upon these days. Of course, one can still have all kinds of fun sneaking up behind an unsuspecting boater or jet skier on lake Chelan. :D

Maybe this is a desert or something, but um... wouldnt you be much advised to break the barrier AT sea level, if not slightly above?

I imagine the F4 and F8 guys used to break the barrier at China Lake and El Centro while operating below sea level.
