The F-5 is a scaled up T-38. It is maybe 30% bigger? Something like that. Bigger engines too. Virtually all F-5s were built as single seat F-5As, but there are some two seat F-5Bs, most of which were actually As and then cut and stretched (seriously). Then there are F-5Ns, which are the ones we repurchased from Switzerland and are back in our adversary squadrons.

MIDNJAC, they wish they were day/VFR, however they do have crap for instruments and no autopilot.

Can't stop watching that video!! HUGE boner....sorry
Speaking of, was out at the Sertoma Air Fest in Lafayette, LA this past weekend and in keeping with your finest traditions, the two incredible officers flying the Rhino demonstration from the western team were "Cooter" and "Tool"! Awesome because the air show announcer used their callsigns throughout the demo to address them. I must have laughed everytime he said "Hey tool, hey cooter what are you guys doing next?!"

Cooter and Tool are actually from the East Coast Demonstration Team out of VFA-106.

What's the differance between an F-5B and an AT-38?

The F-5 is a scaled up T-38. It is maybe 30% bigger? Something like that. Bigger engines too. Virtually all F-5s were built as single seat F-5As, but there are some two seat F-5Bs, most of which were actually As and then cut and stretched (seriously). Then there are F-5Ns, which are the ones we repurchased from Switzerland and are back in our adversary squadrons.

There are two main flavors of F-5; the F-5A/B that is basically a T-38 with a basic radar and two 20mm guns in the nose with some hardpoints thrown on and the F-5E/F Tiger II that is the scaled/beefed up version with bigger engines. The F-5E/F is the one that everyone here is most familiar with since VFC-13 flies a version, the F-5N is basically an upgraded F-5E we got from the Swiss. The F-5A/B, particularly the B, is still flown by a few air forces (Iran, Turkey, Spain, Botswana) though usually as a trainer. The F-5E/F is still flown as a fighter by some countries though most have been upgraded in some form or fashion.

The Wikipedia page on the F-5 is pretty good.
