The ground guys are usually the biggest gear queers at TBS. They blow their paychecks on all sorts of unnecessary crap for when it is time to play GI Joe with Kung Fu grip in the Quantico Highlands.

Then, they get issued the unnecessary crap anyway when they go across the street to IOC.

Wear eye protection.

We had a guy who was an air contract lose an eye to a fire at an admin bivouac that had an old blank in it. The blank exploded and he took a peice in the eye. Medical discharge. I would recomend eye protection to everyone. Lots of Grunts using it for MOUT etc.

I've actually noticed quite a few of the air contracts being gear queers here. I figured its not worth it to spend a bunch of money on crap I'll never use again in the fleet. I also realized after patrolling how much of a waste a tactical sling was - I'm glad mine was passed down so I didn't have to spend $35 on it (I lost it during the night patrol). For me, the sling got in the way too much.

Yeah, that was the whiz-bang piece of gear that everybody "needed." I never bought one - $35 for a few strands of nylon seemed steep to me. The only time I used one was when I had to use someone else's weapon during a FEX, and it kept driving my muzzle into the deck. Didn't make me happy.
