Well, I'm in VT-2, and as far as I have been able to tell, students don't bust crew rest.
I've actually seen them cancel someones flight the next day because their crew day went over 12 hours.. ie flew early in the morning then had meetings in the afternoon that made the person go over 12 hours.. then there's like a mandatory 24 hour rest or something.
As far as warm ups go.. I "thought" warm ups were for only in your current stage/block. IE you could complete RI ground school, sims, RI plane flights, then yeah, be expected to perform, say PA1, FORM 1 or Cruise 1 without a warmup/front seat flight..
While I agree it's total BS, and that VT-3 mishap, I believe, resulted from that, I thought it could happen..
As far as crew rest, like everyone said, don't bust it.. if someone gives you grief, have them walk with you to your safety officer, OR, tell that person that is giving you grief you're going to take it up with your chain of command and then safety. And MAKE SURE you do in fact hit each step in your chain of command.. starting with your on-wing, even though you rarely fly with him now.
If you're in VT-2, I'm the old Coast Guard LT student.. if you have a problem, find me. Those instructors don't scare me.. *flex*
