Well, I'm in VT-2, and as far as I have been able to tell, students don't bust crew rest.

I've actually seen them cancel someones flight the next day because their crew day went over 12 hours.. ie flew early in the morning then had meetings in the afternoon that made the person go over 12 hours.. then there's like a mandatory 24 hour rest or something.

As far as warm ups go.. I "thought" warm ups were for only in your current stage/block. IE you could complete RI ground school, sims, RI plane flights, then yeah, be expected to perform, say PA1, FORM 1 or Cruise 1 without a warmup/front seat flight..

While I agree it's total BS, and that VT-3 mishap, I believe, resulted from that, I thought it could happen..

As far as crew rest, like everyone said, don't bust it.. if someone gives you grief, have them walk with you to your safety officer, OR, tell that person that is giving you grief you're going to take it up with your chain of command and then safety. And MAKE SURE you do in fact hit each step in your chain of command.. starting with your on-wing, even though you rarely fly with him now.

If you're in VT-2, I'm the old Coast Guard LT student.. if you have a problem, find me. Those instructors don't scare me.. *flex*

yup you're right about the warmups, we got everyone in the readyroom to bust out their master curriculum guides one day and search and sure enough it says that if you havent started a stage then you dont get a warmup even if they're different, i.e. contact vs instruments. this was even new to the instructors when it was brought up.

Of course, this is waaaay old news, but I'd like to mention page I-9 in the MPTS 6.a. Warmups Between Stages Warmup sorties shall not be given prior to the first flight in stage unless fourteen days have elapsed since any syllabus flight or simulator event.

I had not flow for 17 days and they tried to keep me from a warmup for my first PA. However, according to the MPTS, you do get a warmup if you've been 14 days without any event, including a sim.

If you don't think you're ready to fly, be honest with your instructor before the flight. I was given only one warmup with a 28 day break between flights (thank you, Ivan). Skeds and the FDO told me I could (read "should") solo with only one warmup (though I had an optional available). I explained I did not feel comfortable and did not think I was safe (notice, I had flown three flights from August 19 to October 10).

It may sound stupid, but with 10 weeks between flights to Area 1, I knew better. The instructors will respect your forsight. Just don't decide during the brief you're not ready. That's BS.

Don't start with me, old man. I'll beat you like a whack-a-mole.

I had several times when crew rest was an issue. Each time I talked to the FDO and each time I was told to just show up in 12 hours (ie. when crew rest was no longer a factor). Never was a big deal at all.

Had a buddy (my form partner) who IMSAFE'ed out of a flight because some noisy neighbors had kept him up all night ... the instructor gave him crap, but they dropped it pretty quick and it wasn't really a big deal.
