Point is: even if you aren't at USNA, don't be surprised if you are being "spied on" at some level while in college...

That's true everywhere. Your internet provider can see where packets of information are coming from and where they are going to. Not that people will spend the time to decrypt and save your dirty converstaions with your girlfried but more looking to see if your eating up the networks bandwidth which would harm the company's ability to provide services to its customers.

Shoot, the internet crackdown that happened while I was there resulted in a company-sized restriction muster for the next 60 days.

Yep, 2002-2003 the peer to peer one where we supposedly ate up 95% of the bandwidth. Oh I remember that one too.

Habitual Waster of Time
If its Websense, we have had that the entire time I've been at my school, except they took away our "Continue" button last year.:(

We have also had 3rd party email taken away and restrictions put on AIM. This is all on personal computers of course.

Figured as much.
See you there :icon_tong

Speaking of websense... http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=websense

We actually pay $10 a month to the cobbler shop...which is enough to buy 2 new pairs of shoes a year from the uniform shop.

and as far as the facebook crackdown went, they did write LOIs for some midshipmen who were in groups which were racially discriminating. One of my asian friends got busted for being in a group making fun of his heritage, it was titled "Crappy asians who are bad at math and science, don't use chopsticks, and have a QPR below a 3.0"

Just thought I would post the final results of the USNA internet porn fiasco. They have decided against publishing a list of offenders as it is widely perceived by the higher ups that the Midshipmen busted would be proud of their LOIs and they would not have the desired effect. Midshipmen will have to learn to live with the new internet filter and go without internet porn.

Well, I guess you will have to go back to the dark days before internet porn...

You do know how to hide Penthouse properly?

Oh...I'm sure some resourceful people will find a workaround.

They're not randomly checking hard drives/flash drives are they?

Doesn't sound like this is supposed to help fraternization issues over there.

If I got an LOI for surfing porn on the internet, you can bet it would be framed and hanging on my "I love me" wall.

Sounds like it's getting pretty ridiculous there.

You guys will just have to start paying for it. I've heard that a single DVD, including all the special features, will yield 4+ hours of porn.

Ahh, yes. I remember the announcement over the 1MC and seeing everyone run from the hall to uninstall kazaa....
