is good to go
I found a cool website that offers live civilian atc feeds from airports all over the world. I was a little curious to know if anyone knew of some sites that able you to listen military air traffic control?
You can get some military fields on liveatc.net. I listen to Sherman field and Pensacola approach abit.
Hey bubba, I cant seem to find the Sherman field feed. I found KPNS though.
ATC feed sites can be a great tool for those who want to improve their radio procedures. You can quickly figure out the types of information that pilots want, that information that ATC needs/wants, how information is exchanged, etc. I have found that it also helps build SA - I've often listened to PNS on liveatc.net and built a "mental image" of the airspace based on the transmissions. This has carried over to the plane - my ability to quickly figure out where the other guys are and what they are doing has been greatly enhanced.
You're not going to hear anything different listening to military controllers anyway. It's not like you're going to be hearing AIC communications or something cool. It's all the same, just on UHF.
What I was refering to is that you can't hear the military traffic out of Whiting and Sherman. Every now and then you might hear something cool. "Shooter 666 spinning over yo' mama's house."
Plus, every aviator knows...it's not how cool you are flying...but how cool you SOUND flying. Oh...and laughing your @$$ off at ANYONE who says "TALLY" (tactical term for "enemy in sight") or "ROGER WILCO" (contradiction) is a plus too.
My instructor actually told me to slow down tonight on the radios, never had that before.
Some SNAs and SNFOs go to this site trying to hear the calls that we make around the Pensacola class C. To the experienced ear, all of our calls are pretty similar to everyone elses. For many new students, however, the calls don't just automatically "make sense." They are often learned by rote, and some students have trouble memorizing them. Plus, there is a magic device in the transmit button that lowers the users IQ by 50 points.
Even then, there's still that occasional time when you go Think, Key, "Approach, uh . . . duh . . . um . . . *cricket, cricket* . . . disregard."Second, sticking to the simple 3 step plan will allow you not to sound like an idiot: 1) Think what you are going to say 2) Key mike 3) Open mouth. IT has to be IN THAT ORDER...otherwise, you will sound like an idiot/not sound at all and feel like an idiot.
