Hope everybody's doing well...
...Got a question

I've seen and heard a lot of different ideas about what pilots do during time out at sea. Is it an animal race for a 6 months? or Lots of down time, meaning doing minimal work? or pretty much like on land? Time to workout, play video games etc..? I'm just trying to get an idea of the life style of pilots on a carrier.

in addition to Redline's question, something I have wondered is the living quarters aboard a carrier for an officer, what is to be expected?

While we are on the subject, what are shifts like on carriers? Are they like how they do it in submarines- 12 on and 12 off, with day crew and night crew? If so, how do they decide who work which shift?

Also, what about duty on carriers? How often do you have duty? How long are they and what do you when you're on duty?

Thanks for answering.

18 hours a day! Wow! That's seven days a week for six months? Sounds brutal. Is it as bad as it sounds or is there a lot of down time in between those 18 hour days?

Thanks for clearing that up. This is probably a stupid question, but is there beer you can buy on the boat or would that be too much of a nice thing? (Its the darn Air Force in me talking again, sorry.) Hey, at least you should get a good laugh out of this!!!

The Beer day rule is 45 days without a port visit.

Isn't the 8 hour rule from land to brief? I dont remember it considering time for debriefing.

Gabe, It wont be 18 hours a day everyday, I think he just meant the days you have duty. I had many days where I could have slept for 12 hours had I wanted to, and I was an Enlisted crewman.

If the CO is up then its a good idea to try and be up and in the ready room doing something, ie. colateral duties, studying.
