I saw this last night on google, pretty cool stuff, and you're right very addicting

Cool site. A search for "Navy Pilot" turned up this picture of a Naval Aviator apparently wearing AWGs (or at least something similar involving a tie) to fly. Pretty stylin' guy!

Every time I see color pictures from the World War 2 era I am just blown away. There many examples within the LIFE archives in particular that are of such good quality, that they look as if they could have been taken yesterday. All of us have been saturated with black and white WW2 imagery throughout our lives, to the point where it all just seems so abstract sometimes. Maybe it's just my feeble Gen-Y mind, but something as simple as color really makes those epic events of 60 years ago feel that much more "real"...

That is AVIATING. Those guys look like they're about to go punch a hole in Akagi's flight deck.

Cron, your first picture is an iconic beauty. SBD's in that paint scheme are sweet and the insignia is bold: USA

Phenomenal pics....particularly of the TBDs at Diamond Head. In the Dauntless pic, check out the devil may care 'tude of the gunner in the back with his arm propped up on the side. In the 'nam pics...is that Hun firing a bullpup??

Yup! Good eyes. Apparently by the time Nam rolled around the 100's were used exclusively in the air-to-ground role, so it makes sense.

It turns from black and white to color about a buck-ten or so into the vid, and can bring a tear to the eye........did mine.
