Does anyone know what the Navy's policy is for granting time off for funerals? I've always thought it had to be an "immediate family member" to be granted leave, but I'm hoping (but not confident) that they make special exceptions.
My husband's, (Ben on this site, in primary at the moment), pastor from his hometown was electrocuted accidentally today while performing a baptism.
Anyway, this guy meant a lot to Ben and he really wants to attend the funeral which has not yet been scheduled... but neither of us are very hopeful that he'll be granted leave, since this isn't an immediate family member. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does the fact that it's Ben's spiritual leader change or help the situation? Ben's planning on asking about this tomorrow of course, but I was wondering if anyone had previous experience or insight.
To make our situation more futile, Ben was just granted leave to attend a funeral last week for a death in my family. What are the odds of two funerals in two weeks, let alone the odds of Ben getting time off for both? Ugh...
Opinions? Advice? Words of wisdom?
