What's the laundry situation at NSI? Do you all do your own, or does it get sent domewhere? I know the list says that you need 4 sets of PT gear, but I was wondering if my hubby may need an extra set or 2 (like if the laundry set up was the same as boot camp).

There is a room full of washers and dryers for us to use. Not enough for everyone to do their laundry all at once, but enough that everyone can do it once a week or so.

First off, man, he is luck to have you. My wife ironed a hole through my first uniform back when I was an E1, and I haven't let her touch a uniform since! Then again, probably just goes to show you that she is smarter than I am, but lets not go there!

Ok, I am assuming a lot here, but back in the day, we were in Nimitz Hall for NSI, and those damn Boosters weren't around while we did our knife and fork thingy. As mentioned, you have the laundry room, but it is difficult at times to score a machine. Solution! Be sneaky, and infiltrate one of the other decks thats empty, above and below, and use the machines there.

There aren't any empty decks. BOOST/NSI are colocated on the third floor with NAPS on the second (we a "strictly" forbidden from the that deck) and offices and a few other NAPSters on the first level. You are right, though, in that it is sometimes tough to score a machine, but if you pay attention you can usually grab one at lunch or before morning muster or times when no one is really thinking about it.

LOL, ironing? I ironed his utilities once, maybe twice, and I think it was only b/c he was studying for comp and his options were either sleep or iron his uniform! I wash uniforms; I want no part of the ironing- if he fails an inspection, I want no part of it, lol!

But, as always, thank you both for the info. :)

There is a guy that offers dry cleaning (parks in back of the barracks in a van for pickup in the morning, dropoff in the evening or next morning) for pretty cheap. I wouldn't get my socks and t-shirts dry cleaned, but for uniforms its great.
