Kimber Custom TLE II (Read: Best 1911 to get?)

...the Glock doesn't do it for me. Something about a single-action, 4-pound trigger pull with a 'safety' on the trigger. I just don't like the design. The one's I've shot have been plenty reliable and accurate, but I'm looking for a range gun, and a Glock is nowhere near as sexy as a 1911...

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like the way to go is a GI 1911 or a Kimber Custom II and then upgrade the weapon as the opportunity presents itself. First thing to go will be the GI sights for some Novak white dots.

Is checkering on the frontstrap really worth anything on a range gun, or is it just one of those features that everybody has to have because the LAPD has it on their guns?

1. Ditto ... the grip angle and trigger suck. Big time. Lots of guys like 'em. Each to their own.

2. No use unless you're into carrying your 1911 for personal protection or are a gunfighter. P.S. ... I've got it on a few 1911's and on a BHP -- very sexy and "nice" ... but not necessary, in one man's opinion. :)

Wingnut,

Wont argue with you on the lack of sex appeal. Glocks are boring.

Forget the front strap. If you want "tactical" throw a slice of bicycle tire on the grip negating the backstrap safety... Though it may detract from the aesthetic.

On the topic of sights??? XS BIG DOTS. I'm sure that will be unpopular here but they are the sight of choice for speed and movers. Especially when using the BAC. Or shooting under duress.

Get a SIG P220. Well balanced weapon. I'm not a fan of a big bulky 1911 although I have an original sitting in the basement back home. Also if you can find a good gunsmith TRIGGER PULL can be adjusted.

So just because it has a heavy trigger out of the box doesn't mean it has to stay that way.

many will probably disagree, but i highly suggest the taurus PT1911. most consider them a poor quality manufacturer but i am most impressed with their 1911 offering and it's half the price of most kimbers.

you really do pay for the name with kimber, they may be nice but that name accounts for most of the price tag.

Thought about the SIG, because my dad's friend has a P226 that shoots great and has never failed on him, but I'm really looking for the traditional single stack 1911...

You could look into the 1911s made by SIG, but you probaly want to research them really well. I've heard negative stuff about it, but it is in your price range.
