There are two kinds of friends you need in flight school. The ones 2-4 weeks ahead of you to give you a heads up, and the ones 2-4 weeks behind you that you help out in turn. This is very important because in my Primary experience (disclaimer -- I am not a SNA. But I think this is general enough to apply to both sides of the house), I would guess that about 50% of the information I actually needed was not found in any FTI or pub. Not because they were inadequate, but just because there is more to the "flight experience" than memorizing the maneuvers and EP/limit stuff. The gouge that's helpful is definitely not the general stuff from the internet, but the passed down tips, techniques, class notes, instructor pet peeves, etc. that you really only get in person. And it's good to prepare for every flight as though your career was staked on it, just so long as it is motivating to you and doesn't cause you to freak out from stress. Because there are a lot of very uncontrollable elements in flying and you can't always beat yourself up over the off days or you are going to get burned out very quickly.
