Basically experienced the same as Michael Webb's posting not too long ago. What put my mind at ease a bit was my surgeon is a senior medical examiner for the FAA. I talked w/ him b4 the surgery, showed him some info my recruiter got from NOMI opthamology. He told me my prescription was "run of the mill". He sat me down and had me look at the 20/15 line while he flipped through the different lenses to figure what degree he needed to correct me to so I would see 20/15.
For the surgery my eyes were numbed, a metal ring was placed to keep me from blinking and I stared at a blinking red light while they uesd a lil' revolving brush on my eye to loosen the epithilium. They used a "hockey stick" to wipe the rest of it away. Next came the actual surgery, what I saw was basically a strobe light effect and of course the blinking red light. I could see wisps of smoke and smelt what I guesses was burnt cornea...not too bad. After that was done to each eye I had contact lens bandages placed on my eyes followed by 3 different types of drops.
The first 2 days were the worst...serious light sensitivity. I went in for a check-up the 2nd day...they did a squint test on me and I was at 20/30 in my left abd 20/70 in my right. It'll get better as the epithilium heals. I gotta go 'cuz things are gettin' blurry again...I'd be happy to answer any ?s
