Well,

Just got word today that I got my first choice for UPT. The wife and I will report on 1 Nov 06. Looks like it is casual status for me after commissioning in May.

Hello sunny Florida!

Can't wait to get into the joint environment!

Peace,

Yeah congrats Thriller...however, the word on the street is that VT-3 is going completely air force style...stand ups and all!!!!!!!

Well...Then I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed in hopes that they make the stand ups NAVY style :D

Either way, I'm blessed and can’t wait to get to Whiting and back home to FL.

You guys have been great on this forum. Hopefully Whiting offers that same hospitality as some of you NAVY guys have offered me.

Peace,

I thought VT-3 was already AF style.

nah, just AF IPs at a Navy VT. I never did any standups, and the only people I knew who did them were AF studs who had selected -38s and were doing the extra forms.

Well,

I'm in lodging right now at Laughlin AFB (came down here to visit UPT operations). You'd be amazed at how many IPs and Studs have no clue where Whiting is.

I was able to get a hold of one IP who has a roommate who came from Whiting and is in Vipers now. I've got an email address for him and will be getting in contact later today.

From what I can gather...it seems like the IPs who knew of the Whiting program here at Laughlin, spoke poorly about Whiting. Basically said that it was really laid back and it takes you forever to complete. Also, said that guys struggle to get used to the AF way at Vance. These are all things that I've read about in individual posts on the forum. So I basically learned nothing from them on Whiting. I think a lot of there info was coming from hearsay.

Overall...I'm just going to take there comments with a "grain of salt" and press on.

Peace,

I don't doubt the IPs are saying that, based on talking w/ AF IPs and IUTs here. This isn't meant to start a "which is better" thread, but from an Air Force perspective, they're probably equating "laid back" w/ something bad because of how the AF does business. The Navy's "laid back" attitude isn't just that, it's also a "roll w/ the punches" attitude and adapt. As a future AF pilot, provided you can deal w/ the AF training when you go back, your Navy experience will probably help you overall. My $.02 anyway.
