Just a few STA-21 Questions

Hey all, as you can see, I am new here. Very soon I will be mailing out my application package, and just had a few questions, that, while they have been pretty much answered by my command, I wanted to get a second opinion after I saw how many packets were discarded last year due to admistrative errors/missing documents.

Does the SAT student score report that was mailed to me count as a certified copy of my SAT scores, or do I have to obtain an additional document containing the scores.

Does my age waiver request go with my packet, or followup to CNET after program acceptance.

same as above, except eyesight waiver.

Also, while I am thinking about it, if anyone would be willing to proof my current copy (I think it has seen about 8 re-writes now :icon_wink )of my personal statement let me know I an can PM you a copy.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

When I submitted my SAT scores I had admin make a copy and stamp it certified to be true copy with a signature. The age waiver is automatic with acceptance from what I've been told, just make sure that it's in your personal statement, as per the instruction. Not sure about the eye waiver, wasn't an issue with me.

SAT student score report will suffice...however, you need to have your NC or admin stamp and sign them "certified to be a true copy". The same is true for everything in your package that needs to be certified.

I am pretty sure that any waiver requests must be included in your statment as well as your commanding officer's endorsement...(that will probably require more drafts and for that I am sorry).

I would be happy to proof your package for you...tell me you are going pilot and not swo...

Good luck

I'm not 100% sure about medical stuff, but I do know that age waivers have to be mentioned in the CO's endorsement and/or recommendation. Medical stuff is most likely the same.
Just one more thing out of a thousand to check before you send it off.
Oh, and be sure to sign your personal statement (not that I know anyone who was so focused on everything else in the package that they forgot to sign their personal statement and had to scan and e-mail one from Italy or anything).

Thanks for the advice, going to have to make a couple of changes to the personal statment to include age waiver.

I have my external board tomorrow (Wed) at noon.

FMRAM, I am about to leave for work now, but I will PM you a copy of my personal statement in the morning.

Thanks again all

EDIT: yes I am going Pilot

Good luck...remember to take a second or two to think about responses to questions and not just blurt out what is on the top of your head. Resist the urge to get upset or uneasy also...as they will probably try to ruffle your feathers.

(huge sigh of relief)

both interviews are now done, both times the officers were kind enough to give me a small debrief, as well as wish me the best of luck.

They both went very well, and the chair of the first board even told me that he would gladly welcome me to the officer community, and that he had no doubt I would eventually recieve a commission if not this time around.

FMRAM: thank you for the suggestions, I will work at those on this next rewrite, should have another one to toss your way soon.

Keep em comming...

Glad to hear your boards went well...

Something to keep in mind, about half of my boost class got picked up the first time they applied...on the other hand there was not a single airman in the class...not trying to discourage you, as I am confident that you will make it if you keep at it...just don't one of those guys who gives up if it doesnt happen the first time around...
KEEP AT IT.
It took me 3 tries to make it and I never once thought about giving up...
Best of luck though.

not discouraged at all, while I remain hopeful that I will be picked this time around, I will not let something as simple as not succeeding on the first try hold me back (although I will be putting on third before my packet hits the mail, not that that changes things very much)

I will however be forced to pursue a different route, with my age, and the way the program works with boost, and NSI, I will be too old to pursue an aviation selection for next years program. It is my hope that, that fact, on top of my drive to succeed will work in my favor.

If not selected plan B is to finish college on my off time, and apply with a waiver to OCS.

Solid plan...and putting on E-4 will definately be a plus in your package. Make sure that your promotion makes it into your package. You can submit addendums to your package as well (for current college grades, promotion, awards ect).

Make sure to put in another package next year as well, even if you are close to graduation... there is a guy here that has one semester left for a double major.

Definatly enroll in EAWS/ESWS, make good grades in off duty education, ect.

Speaking of off duty education...

I was able earn an AA and to knock out 80% of my BS through evening classes, clep/excelsior, and NCPACE. This was a plus for my package, but what I regret not doing was taking some more challenging math courses. I am sure that you are aware of the math and science reqirement for the STA-21 guys. I think that sailors with a solid math background have better chances of getting picked up.

Just my 2 cents worth.

thank you for the adivce,I hadn't thought about that, applying despite being close to graduation.

Right now I am finishing up the requirements my command has for EAWS enrollment and I plan to put on my wings before the summer is out.

A note on college, I have roughly 73 credits now, with a large portion of those being calculus and physics courses, and I plan to get as many more as I can before the year is out.

looking forward to any pointers you might have on my last edit I sent you

You have mail Tibmag...

Calculus and physics!? Awsome!

If you can swing it, I would highly recomend that you finish you EAWS and submit it as an addendum to your package. I belive you have untill sometime in September for additional stuff.

With that in mind, that will be my new goal, completing my wings in time to add to my packet.

still working over latest thoughts for my statement, should have something back at you by Sat. FMRAM
