It came full circle

Some of you may remember my original post on AW. I asked if there were any versions of the F-14 that had dual controls. "Why would you ask such a question?" came next and I was soon after shredded as another Skeeterman.

Well, it has come full circle. The guy that was telling tall tales (lies) to everybody in my unit was the first one killed at the Reno Air Races this year. The part that has been left out by the media was the fact that he lied to race officials about the plane he was flying this year. It had never left the ground until just prior to that crash that killed him.

So, his BSing gets him ousted as a volunteer from our unit and eventually gets him killed.

The media hasn't caught on to this yet and some outlets are still reporting he was a "former F-14 driver."

Amazing. Maybe this guy was Skeeterman also?

Remarkable twist to that story in any case.

Just got back from Reno last night. Are you referring to Steve Dari's? I didn't know him, but had heard nothing about this being a first flight.

Yep, Steve Dari. You probably won't hear anything about it being a first flight for that plane or him telling yet another lie, this time to race officials. He was just loved by all who knew him. I leave it at that. No need to further bad mouth a dead man, perpetual liar or not.

Concur. 'Nuff said on that subject.

Sorry to hear about the crashes at the races. I was there in 94 when two T-6 Texans clipped tail to nose on the start and one crashed. The other made a straight in and landed. It was pretty traumatic. Also had a P-51 crash when he blew his engine and couldn't see for all the oil on his canopy. A tough weekend.

If you've never been to the Reno Air Races. GO see them. It is the Mecca for aviators. Sitting on the turtleback of my F-14D watching the races all day was one of the best X-Cs I ever had.

Of course we had to keep shooing civilians off that would try to climb up on the tails and join us.
