Hello. I'm going to be a 16-year old junior in high school. I just quit a marching band program because it interfered with other activities, plus it just plain sucked. However, I have a >4.0 GPA, and I am still involved in other things. Will this hurt my chances of becoming an officer?
If I were to become an officer I would like to fly, but not jets. Will this hurt me too?
Are you kidding me? Who told you to quit the marching band? I don't know a real warrior that didn't spend 4 or more years excelling in the High School Band. Most of the guys in my wardroom still played their instruments and we would incorporate them into our military drill out on the flight line when not actually flying or ground job work.
I recommend you get back into the band ASAP; then work to become first chair. Second chair=first loser! Also, make the time for other activities; the best pilots were in band, first chair, and Dungeon Masters of the D&D club; they just made the time. With school, band and D&D you will have no time for those dream stealers know as girls; good thing.
I hope I helped.
Sincerely,
Lt Steve "Flute Master" Mitchell
