I have a PRT coming up in a few weeks and I feel comfortable with the run and plank (good medium) but the pushups are a bit worrying to me. Right now I can do around 40 pushups (+/- depending on how I am feeling that day) but I need to be able to do 47 for my age. I was talking to one of my friends and he said the best way to increase your pushup count is to grease the groove everyday with taking 1 rest day a week. Basically do around half of your max reps throughout the day. He said he went from 40 pushups to 80 pushups with good form in a few weeks.
Is this really the best pushup program? I've heard differing opinions depending on where I look. Some say that you're not really working our your muscles and you need a dedicated time to do pushups so that you are sweating and your arms are beat by the end.
I mean I only really need around 10 more pushups but ideally I'd like to really increase my pushup count to the good medium or even good high range. Anyone have any insight?
