Maine? I wouldn't bother with the amount of crap weather you have up there. I'm from MA. Pretty much the same thing. I'd go with a car. My 2 cents.

Master your ego, and you own your destiny.
Or you could invest it/use it for beer/pay it back, and then take out a "Career starter loan" in like a year or so, and get your bike then.

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I may go ahead and purchase a used one, as I think it will be a good bang for its buck.

My two cents, don't get one for the safety reasons. I have known too many people to get f'd up riding them, and many times it was not their fault but other drivers who did not see them on the road.

Take it for what it is worth, I am a killjoy anyways........;)

Hey, I'm kind of stuck on something right now. My neighborhood doesn't allow motorcycles so I can't store it at my place at all. Have you guys ever dealt with this or know what to do?

On what authority is it not allowed? Is it like a gated community or HOA type deal? I'm more curious then anything.

I live on a golf course and my neighborhood is a street with townhouses on it. There's a bunch of old ladies that live here so it's safe, but they don't like the noise. To be honest, I'd have the loudest pipes possible on my bike, haha.

If they don't like it that's one thing, but do they have the authority to dictate what you can and can't do? If not I say tell them to piss off, but I'm kind of an abrasive guy, so I don't know. I mean I wouldn't go reving it up just to be a dick or any thing, but I wouldn't let someone else not liking the noise stop me from getting a bike. That's me though.

I've heard of this actually happening once. An apartment complex wouldn't let loud pipes, and they used some obscure law for it. That was in Virginia, so I don't remember the details. However, in Florida, apparently there's a law that motorcycle pipes aren't allowed to be over a certain decibel. Most every set of pipes is nowhere close to the limit, but no one complains. I guess that could be how they were getting that rule.

Well my landlord has told me I can't have one anyways so I'd rather not mess around. I've got a good deal working here that I don't want to give up. Unless I can store my bike off site, I'll wait until primary.
