Maybe I'll get shouted down for posting Air Force stuff here but I thought this was (as a plane geek) one of the coolest shots I've ever seen so I thought I'd share it. Supposedly it's of two F-15s intercepting a couple of MiG-29s in 89 to escort them to an air show in BC. I hadn't seen it anywhere so I thought I'd post it cause I think it's neat.

That sounds like an extremely unlikely scenario - probably urban legend. That could be a pic of any 2v2 anywhere in the world.

"He went like this, I went like that. I said to Hollywood, 'Where'd he go?' Hollywood said, 'Where'd whooooooo go?'"

Still seems far fetched. If it did happen (like in the photo), then it would likely have been pre-arranged and done in a MOA or warning area. You're not just going to zorch out and intercept someone flying an IFR flight plan, which almost certainly would have been the case.

Well, it was in the waning days of the Evil Empire. I'm sure it was arranged beforehand, but even now it's routine to 'intercept' foreign military aircraft and escort them to landing, even if it's just to join up and wave and get pretty pictures for the ready room.

(I know you know this, Brett, I'm saying for the other guys who might get the impression that the AF almost shot down some Russkies on their way to an airshow)

On another note - look at the pics in the first link. I think the Fulcrums' support aircraft is that An-124 they modified to carry Buran (like NASA's 747). You can see the hardpoints on the center fuselage. Guess they weren't doing anything else with it.

Here’s the story

Great story. I clicked on a clickbait below it, and now I want this to be my mask for the office (which is mandatory in the building) and grocery store.

I saw them in Cleveland. They did a few flybys at Burke. I remember that they were being escorted. Not sure if they were 15s or 16s.

Wow this one came back from the dead! Man that’s crazy headgear.

Hey... Hey Joe! I’m working through the 7hr long F-14 50th anniversary video, I’m on Bio’s part now. Looking forward to your clip, thanks from a big Tomcat fan.
