I took this pic behind the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola back in August. Any of you guys know who it may have been used by? It reads "Arctic Warrior" across the hump on the fuselage...I didn't get close enough to see any unit info. Very cool Scooter....

....Very cool Scooter....

Very "cool", indeed .... "Arctic Warrior" and all :) .... it looks like a parts locker with parts missing. Probably a "vanity" paint job .... maybe an Adversary unit made-up paint scheme --- never seen a similar camo scheme in active units.

Get a BUNO .... then we'll know.

Doesn't look like an Adversary paint scheme I've seen, but there were many "vanity" one off jobs around here and there.

Give me a day or two and I believe I can get the story on it from someone that might know. I'll post when I get more information.

OK, gotta hand it to you pointy nosed guys. If those sexy jets (A4s and A6s) were still around, I MIGHT want to fly them, and not helos. But then again, being a helo pioneer would be cool too.

Being that I love all things aviation, I'm interested to hear where that A4 came from...

I was fortunate enough to get about 200 hours in the A4E as an IP in Meridian. What a hot rod. All the avionics were taken out of the avionics hump, a reduction of over 600 pounds, yet it still had the bigger engine. Driving it slick on PMCF's, we had to pull power coming out of 36,000' or you risked taking it right to M1.0. It was easy to get it in the high M0.9's. A bitch at the boat though, landing an already light airplane with a light fuel load.

Just like these TOPGUN Scooters....there's a reason they called it Heinemann's "Hot Rod".

There's a TA-4J that's hangared next door to my office which has a interesting paint scheme applied to it.

A4s, does the name Victor Miller or Aerogroup sound familiar to you? They're the ones operating the TA-4J here at GYI.

Is that an F-8 fuselage to the left there? IMO the F-8 was a great aircraft...and many talk of it being the "last of the gunfighters" and what not... Do any of you have any time in them? A4s?

I believe that is an A-7.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong & have been wrong before. :D

^^ Actually yeah I think you're right... top wing area would have that hump-looking thing... anyone have time in A-7s?

Thats a Crusader. Sluf had a much less Ovular shaped intake and it didnt have near as much edge to it as the Crusader. Plus if you look real close you can see that the nose is pointy.

Like that time you joined the army?

You will never know Chunks. :(

I guess the only regret that I may have in my life is going into the Army instead of the Navy. But then I look at my wife & kids & I realize that had I gone into the Navy I wouldn't have met my wife & my kids wouldn't be here. So I guess God can make lemonade out of my lemons. :D
