Fleens? You're not Fleens!
So I don't know if anyone out there is an intel officer or intel officer candidate. But I have a few questions about your background, because I"m just trying to get the gist of who they take. I had my interview with the commanding officer of intelligence programs up at Great Lakes yesterday and he said I was a good candidate, so it's all in the hands of the review board now.
I got a 99 on my ASVAB, and 45 on my ASTB without studying (taking it again in a few weeks . . . actually studying this time). I'm a senior at the University of Chicago, which is pretty elite, and have a 3.15 overall and a 3.5 in my major, which qualifies me for honors (3.25 is deans list around here, if you get my gist on how challenging it is!). I've had a security clearance before (though it's a pretty low level and means nothing in relation to a TS-SCI), have good recs from the Department of State, State of NY, my profs. I'm president of my fraternity (coed service frat, Alpha Phi Omega), and captain on the ice hockey team, and was an Academic All-American swimmer in high school, so I'm in pretty good shape. I'm also female--I don't know if that changes anything. But yeah. I think that's it.
Umm also, I'm pretty clear on the OCS background. I'm not so keen about the haircut. I have curly hair, so it looks more unruly when short, but I guess we all have to make sacrifices. It'll grow back. From what I understand, after OCS, you can grow your hair out as long as you keep it neatly tied (in a bun, etc) and not interfering with your headgear. Is this correct?
Two questions: I don't know if there are any other Jews out here on the board. I totally forgot to ask the C.O. about this (he's Jewish too). Anyway, my OCS class, which would start end of September, will be active during Yom Kippur. This is kind of the only holiday I take absolutely seriously. I don't know if there's a way I can get liberty to attend services? I understand that I probably won't be able to fast, or even get out of the days activities, but I want to at least make it to Kol Nidre. Does anyone know anything about this?
Second question: for the ladies out there--if you were in good shape, was it difficult to keep up with the guys? I grew up playing on a men's hockey team, and still play. I'm actually on a men's intramural team here at school. I'm not one to wimp out, but I've never exactly been in the military before either.
