Info regarding IA's and the ODN

Trying to find information regarding individual augmentation and the Officer Discrepency Notebook. I have an extremely vague idea of what each is but looking for more clarification. Web based info would be great, 1st/2nd hand would also help.

I'm particularly interested in how "Officer Misconduct" relates to each of these.

Oddly enough, Google turned up zilch.

Well, in a round-about way. Just making sure I hit every available resource (although I'm striking out horribly right now).

That's good. There's not jack to be found on it.

Hey guys, I have a big gouge cd from TBS that has all kinds of random admin-related info as well as all the TBS pubs on CD. I don't know if IA or ODN stuff is on it, but you're free to look or make a copy. I'll be your friendly ODO for a chunk of tomorrow, so you know where to find me.

Perfect example as to why I posted it where I did. At least in the General forum someone may ask something stupid enough about this topic that it may generate at least SOME discussion.

Seems IA's and the role of the Monitor is somewhat of an urban legend. They are there and they provide a function, but as far as "what" they are doing, "why" they are doing it, and "how" they are doing it...not much info to be found.

In the spirit of the Monitor billet, is that considered an IA? Or are their people that choose to do a tour as a Monitor (3 years?)?

From what I understand, you should be communicating with your monitor (via email or phone?) a year out from becoming a mover (meaning your 1st fleet tour is coming to an end). What exactly are you communicating? What you would like for the future/where you would like to go? What do you have to sell yourself with?

What is fleet credibility? What are you trying to accomplish daily in your first gun squadron? I think this answer is "Quals", but what do these quals get you? Are you unable to perform certain missions until you obtain these? Are you in control of how slowly/quickly this will come or are you still at the mercy of the scheduling gods? Or, is there a "curriculum" in place that will get you there and is it laid out with a timeline? I'm guessing the more "quals" you possess, the more opportunities you'll have when the monitor starts asking what it is you want to do when you grow up?

I'm guessing you guys are using "IA" in a different context than "pack your ****, you're going on a field trip"?

Monitor billets are not IA billets. It is a solid "B" billet that can enrich your career by the contacts that you make. Personally, I would never do it but some guys have that desire.
Your fleet credibility are your quals but also your reputation as an officer and aviator. Believe it or not, most of your career is based solely on word of mouth.
Call the monitor a year out and give him your desires. This is your opportunity to do what you want to do so sell yourself. Remember, needs of the Corps always dictate. A solid career enhancing move is a FAC tour. It keeps you in the local area and can get you back to a gun squadron within a year. School is also a solid, career enhancing move and will get you back in the fleet quickly. Kingsville or Meridian are great billets if the monitor has the slots (they are becoming scarce) but you might find yourself in a IA billet from your Instructor tour. Semper Fly, Frumby
