Me and the fam will be living for a period in the gulf...

No, not down the street from the flora-bama - not that gulf. The other one.

Every handful of months I will be able to take a nice vacation somewhere. The catch is, I have a gaggle of young'ns, including one still in diapers and a stroller. The marathon train trips and sight-seeing is out. I'm looking more for a place to park for a week.

I've lived and worked in Europe before, plus I did two med cruises. Although I'd love to see more of europe, I don't want to spend coin there with current Euro exchange rate.

Any good places around the I/O to visit - with a reasonable exchange rate? I'm thinking Thailand will definitely be one trip. Anyone ever do Oman, the seychelles? Anywhere else?

I have never been to Singapore, but a guy I work with talks very highly of it. Listening to him, it sounds pretty family friendly as well.

Sing is a great place for a fam vacation. Australia is cool too.

Singapore is cool. Take the kids to the night safari. Thailand has great diving and lots to see. I've been to Oman, and it was OK. They have a "decent" beach. There is a Hilton in Salalah (sp?) that was pretty nice. Bahrain/Dubai are OK.

Are you a Hornet guy? If so, I think I know what job you're taking. I knew that guy 8 years ago and he had pretty good libbo. Then again, he was single and spent all his money on Russian hookers in Bahrain. See if the wife will give you a libert chit for that!

Good luck.

I'd say a safari in Tanzania, but if you don't want to do that with the kids Zanzibar is a pretty cool place. The beaches are really nice. Stone Town would probably be a little difficult to drag kids through, but the rest of the island would probably be a nice relaxing family vacation.

Thailand has great beaches and you can rent houses right on the water for VERY cheap. Your dollar will go VERY far there.
