No problem here in Florida. My understanding they wouldn't be charged nor could they be sued (could be wrong on that part though). In California, they would might avoid prosecution but no doubt would be sued.

As much shit as people give texans for being dumb, or rednecks, or both, I am impressed with most of them. They're genuinely nice people (I haven't been to downtown Corpus yet, so don't ruin it for me) and I haven't met the same resistance to military boys as I ran into in P Cola or the Nid. This article just further reinforces that I'd rather be surrounded by a bunch of Texans than almost anyone else.

Thank you for them kind words, young man. We folks here in Texas tend to give a person benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves unworthy. Welcome. :)

That pretty much sums up FL's law, as I understand it. I'm not really up on the specifics for CA. I've read a law summmary once since moving here, and I don't think you are required to "retreat" in your own home, but I'm not positive. The problem is the civil suit that could result from a personal defense situation, even if the DA or whatever determines you acted in self defense. It just depends on your state, unfortunately.

If this happened in California, the state already would have seized all of the family property, had the kids in foster homes, and the parents in jail. When they finish their term they would deported to Mexico...

OK, that's a little over the top. California does not support deporting anyone to Mexico.
