If you're sitting in the desert when it's 120 degrees out wearing long pants and long sleeves, wouldn't you want to wear a little as you can get away with? Why load yourself up with all sorts of crap if you don't have to?

Thats the whole point. There are douche bags that never leave the FOB that carry enough shit to go on a 5 day recce. I carried maybe two ammo pouches (one for cigs, one for money, etc) unless I knew that we'd be in a place where more would be preferable (which isn't too often nowadays).
