How long is the wait for a PRK vision waiver?

My application package is done and I have a letter and all my post-PRK records showing i have 20/15 left, 20/20 right, 20/15 overrall...everything is being submitted tomorrow. How long is the wait for the waiver? I've read the boards and have seen anything from a year to a month. If anybody could clear this up i'd appreciate it...i'm already anxious enough as it is Thanks in advance!

The waiver gets done with your application. I do not think it takes any extra time. I could be wrong though. But I sent my stuff off and heard back about a month later that I had a waiver and accepted to pilot training.

Cool, thanx for the info. Everything went in yesterday...now comes the wait...I'm actually going through some motion sickness and sleep deprivation studies at the NASA Research center in Mtn. View...get to find out what my limits are and get training to tolerate those conditions better...should help pass the time Starting tomorrow at 9am I'll be up for 36 hours for the sleep dep. study...fun fun!

I'm thinking about doing the same thing before OCS in December. About the NASA thing, did Lt Paiz set that up or is it something that you found out on your own? I'd like to know because I am also interested. Can you give me additional details?

Hey how's it going? I had my PRK done at LasikPlus, i know it sounds weird but yes the doc does PRK, my bill says PRK and all my records indicate PRK...the doc is a senior medical examiner for the FAA which swayed my decision to LasikPlus rather than the Laser Eye Center of Silicon Valley. Cost was roughly $1200/eye, that includes all your check-ups and a year of enhancements if needed. Check out lasikplus.com for any other info. I got hooked up w/ the NASA thing through my internship. I'm interning as a photographer for the Los Gatos Weekly Times and I did a portrait of the doc who designed the tests. We hit it off pretty well when I mentioned I wanted to become a NAVY pilot, talked about the vomit comet and stuff. She asked if I wanted to participate in some studies and happily accepted. I'm actually at NASA right now doing a combination of the sleep deprevation and motion sickness studies...waiting to get hooked up for the motion sickness part...Call 650-604-6848, it's the psychophysiology dept. at the NASA center...ask for Dr. Cowings or Ann. Gotta go.

Talk to an officer recruiter. You send in your OCS application and then they decide if they will give you one or not.

I had the surgery done here in ATL at Emory Vision Center. The Dr. was Dr. Koazarsky, a real bad ass. He is a pilot himself, and has many awards and experience under his belt. He has done many players and coaches from the Braves, including Greg Maddux. I figure if Maddux can trust, why can't I. I went in seeing about 20/100 in each eye. Now, I am seeing 20/10 in each eye (eagle vision). I was really impressed by there staff, equipment, and the services.
The price was a little steeper than most places being $2200/eye, but if I'm gonna get my eyes played with I am going to the best. I've heard good things about Lasikplus though. Let me know if you'd like some more info about the place I went to. Dr. Kozarsky would gladly answer and Q's you had.

I had it done at THE LASER EYE CENTER, they have offices all around the country, mine came to $3750 including all doctors appointments. I had it done after OCS and just sent my package in for the waiver. My vision was not corrected to 20/20 instead its 20/25, i hope this doesnt hurt my chances. I am now correctable to 20/15 which is better than before my surgery.

Not so fast there, candidates. Hartman is a living example of a PRK waiver. When you submit your application with your MEPS recommendation for waiver and everything else, the board will decide whether or not to grant you a pilot slot. If they accept you and offer you an OCS billet, there's pretty much nothing standing in your way at that point. But keep in mind that your waiver has not officially been granted to you just because you've been awarded a pilot slot. You still have to pass a NOMI physical, and NOMI (once again) has to recommend you for a waiver. Once this is done, BUPERS is the final authority which will actually grant the waiver. I didn't actually receive my waiver until after I came to OCS. NOMI will bring you in for all kinds of funny tests. You'll even have to fill out questionaires that ask you about your self esteem (yeah!!) before and after the surgery. I guess they're trying to figure out if the surgery some how turned you into a whack job. I was still a little nervous about all of the NOMI eye tests, but the doctor told me that he's only seen one guy get turned down for a PRK waiver following his NOMI physical. Hope this helps...

Hey Guys,
Little confused about PRK after OCS. Does anyone know how it works if you are in BDCP and have a pilot slot, and you do not pass your NAMI Physical, but you want to get PRK after OCS or go home and get it, and come back? Someone wrote they got it after OCS.. How does that work? Do htye pay you while waiting?
