compare to the Army?

And what are my rights for not wanting to say "so help me god" when swearing in to become a navy officer?

The same as your right to be a conscientious objector.

If you don't want to say it, don't say it ... but a big part of the military is following tradition and protocol. And protocol won't allow liberals to make a big scene to get their point across, as they sometimes do.

The funny thing is the aetheists can be just as vocal, bull-headed, and ignorant as the bible-thumpers. It makes for great entertainment.

Amen to that. I bet they start praying in a foxhole under fire, or commencing their first dark-ass night approach to the ship.

If you're a true athiest and there is no God, just say the words and laugh at the rest of us that do on the inside. Quick fix, no harm.

+1

Bottom line, if you go around making a big deal about your beliefs you will annoy people. That is the same whether you are catholic, wiccan, atheist, whatever.

Ya. There is a pretty small minority of modern day christians whose main goal in life seems to be proselytizing, yet they all seem to be on my campus. Especially if they find out I'm not christian. It really bugs me. And with the military I have no issues with it being more christian oriented (only from what I've heard). I can truly respect anyone'e beliefs but the second you attempt to get me to "come to church with you one time" or "come listen to this speaker" or "come to this Chi Alpha camping trip", I'm gonna start to get annoyed. Also these mid-day commercials for me to send money so a bunch of missionaries can tell 3rd world families they can eat and get medical care if they go learn about Jesus first.
