House for Rent in Norfolk

I've been on several websites looking for houses and have found a few that are promising but figured I'd post here too. Looking for a place in Norfolk close to NOB (ie. Oceanview, Ghent, City of Norfolk) with 3+bdrm/2+ bath with a fence for $1600 or less. I have three children all less than 5 and a 7yr old female black lab. We are currently on our drive from Tejas to VA and will be looking around later this week if any of you have a house that fits. GO BOLTS!

Thanks Casey, you gonna finally get out of the PUMA or are you posting another KOA sticker at a nearby base?

Little Creek had no room when I got here. And both won't let you stay continuously. Have to do 60 in 14 out, and so on. So every 2 months I get to move the Puma. I'm keeping my feelers open for a place to split with other guys, that is similar to what I pay for this. $450 a month including utils is hard to beat though.

I'm living in Kempsville, about equidistant between NOB and Oceana. It's got a lot of 3/2 type houses renting for anywhere from $1100-1400/mo. I pay $1250 for the place I rent which is decent, although parking here is limited. Try Century 21 for property management; they usually have some stuff for rent out here. Stay away from townhouses on Holland Road though, most of them are bad deals.

Ghent: Expect to pay $1200 and up for a small apartment. It's a nice location, but expensive.

Kingery... I worked in residential real estate/property management off and on since 97' in that market area. You will *not have any trouble finding a good fit with those specs. Ghent and surrounding areas of Norfolk near the base are full of bungalows and homes constructed in the 40's and newer. If you want the shortest commute and would like a home with character, that is your best bet. There's also newer construction within pockets of the surrounding area.. If you have small children, who are school aged, your best bet is to start with selecting your SCHOOL zone (greatschools.net can get you in the right direction with school scores and factoids). Once you have an idea of schools of interest, you shouldn't have an issue at that price point finding a home that will fall within your price range and needs. The better you can widdle down your parameters, the easier your search will be. Otherwise, if you're searching between say - $1300-$1800/month 3 bdrms/2bath in a broad range of areas.. trust it can become very disorienting.. I've had renters bring me hundreds of printouts and look like their heads are going to spin off! .. finding approximately 3 school zones of interest or concentrating on the approximate miles from base (if commute is your strongest factor) will ease the amount of inventory you'll be sifting through.

Coming into Virginia Beach, $1600.00 will get you a home with decent square footage, in an established neighborhood. My husband commuted from a neighborhood in Kempsville.. he averaged 40 minutes on interstate (most of that was the bumper to bumper once he got off of the interstate! and at the interchange!).

I think one of the spouses still has her home in Ocean Lakes (which is closest to NAS) on market.. and that was in your price range? On the lake.. great looking interior.. Check further down on this board, I think she placed the link for the listing on here.
