Hot new helicopter/rotorcraft news

Some nice footage of the USAF MH-139 - one of the finest military helicopters in the world. Boeing is the Prime for the MH-139 with the aircraft provided by Leonardo and completed in Philadelphia, PA.

Ignorant comments by the poster.

The Joint Base Andrews USAF Continuity of Government mission is currently provided by 25 UH-1N helos, many of these airframes regenerated from boneyard and are former USMC HMLA aircraft. These aircraft will be replaced with 25 x HH-60W reconfigured for high density VIP PAX seating and preserves the LM/Sikorsky CSAR helo production capability. Wise move by the AF.

Leonardo TH-73/AW119 and MH-139/AW139 both lead by a former HC-6 squadron mate and TPS grad. These programs are as American as they come.

This is different: tanking off a Chinook while in flight. 20,000 lbs of gas to give?

AF and Marine Herc tankers are already in short supply just for exercises. You could see the Army wanting to have a capability that is organic.

Clearly Army and SOF are thinking about a world where a FARP is not available
Understood, My mind sees all those rotor blades intermingling with unhappy results. 53's always had a pucker factor and the simulator I sat at for the V22 was not much better from the guy in back POV. IFR from that tiltrotor looks like a better option.
