I went to watch my Yellow Jackets kick some Maryland a$$ but I have a question for all you who went to the North Ave. Trade School. Why is there a USMC license plate on the front of the Ramblin Wreck? Just curious, I had tickets down close, where the players come out, and got to see the wreck leading them out. Here is the photo! Thanks.

In the end, I couldn't say. But, when I went to school there a few years ago, one of the directors was a retired Col. Hardeman (I think that was his name, it escapes me right now, and I can't find it in the directory) He was in during the Korea era. That plate is usually a GT plate, so why there is a USMC plate on there, I have no idea. Would have to email Tech about it.

Yeah, i dug around the Rambling Wreck club's website (the keepers of the Wreck) and it didn't reveal any info. In most of the pics I saw of the Wreck the front plate was a GT one. Why not email the Rambling Wreck club and ask them ?
 
I just graduated a couple of months ago and was sitting right above the tunnel where the Wreck comes out and I didn't notice this (wasn't in my most *alert* state of mind :eek: ), but usually it is the standard interlocking GT logo.

Like Pags said, the AA representative is a retired Marine who is also pretty involved with our NROTC unit.

Thanks, I was just curious, I too have always noticed the Gold and White "GT" on the front but was just curious about the USMC Plate. Didn't know if it had anything to do with a special tradition I was not aware of.
 
The Colonel retired a few months ago (as did Big John if you remember him). The USMC b'day celebration will be quiet from now on, for sure...
 
From the wreck driver:

Each year the Wreck driver gets to keep the radiator cap, flags, running board plates, and front license plate which the next driver is in charge of replacing. As part of it the next driver also gets to choose what license plate they want on the front as well as which radiator cap. In the past many drivers have chosen to just use a GT plate. I chose to put the EGA plate on there because I am going to give it to my best friend who is a 2nd Lt. in the Marine Corp. as a gift after the season is over. Obviously, it is also on there in appreciation of the hard work done by our Armed Forces.

Sorry to see them go, both great guys. Big John was always worth a good laugh.

Very cool of the driver for putting the plate up there. Learn somthing new everyday. :cool:
