Here in my Car, I feel safest of all

I was thinking about the extra space in the crew cab for stuff you want to keep dry. Like extra girls or oh, say a couple subs and 6x9s. :icon_smil
 
I really wish that I had saved my money as a 2ndLt in flight school and not embarked on a string of expensive cars/trucks. I'd be really loaded now.

That said, if you want the classic JO-mobile, how about a Mustang?

A truck would be good for all the DITY moves you'll do, although don't miss out on the "partial DITY". There was a guy I know that bought a POS boat, moved it all over creation, and made tons of money doing this. He never put the thing in the water. Just hauled it from place to place. Something to think about.

Someone at Whiting has one. Haven't seen the actual person, but I've seen the car on 87 going the other direction and on base parked.

Something to keep in mind: A car is a TOOL. You need to determine what your needs will be and then figure how that tool will meet them.

If you sit down and list exactly what you need. Then what you want. You will probably have a good idea of exactly what car you should get (often this is not the same car you started out thinking you should get).

Example: My criteria for a vehicle were: Comfort, reliability, and cargo capacity (in that order). I wound up getting a '94 Lincoln Towncar and I absolutely love it. ($4000 - over 2k under blue book)

(My criteria for my 2nd vehicle were loud 80's rock music, mud, w/ lots of balls and I got a '78 Ford F-150 w/ a 351 Windsor and 35 inch tires for $2300 off of craiglist.com)
 
thats pretty spendy for something that you cant put but one bag of groceries in -- i think qualifies as an over-priced Lt.-mobile
 
You may also want to avoid vehicles in their first year of a production or the first year after a major redesign...

I would go for a Ford Explorer Sport Trac. I know it has a 4.5 foot bed, but with the bed extender you can haul almost anything. Plus it has a better ride than the Tacoma or Frontier because it is based off the explorer.

I am an SNA - I took the loan from USAA - only spent 15 K and got a black 01 Sport trac with sunroof, leather, upgraded sound system, and hard bed cover with about 80K miles on it. Well taken care of, this puppy's only getting broken in! I love it and the best part is that the back window rolls completely down - with that, the windows down, and the sunroof open it is like having a convertible truck.

I enjoyed being able to save the rest of the loan money, but if you really need something new, the '07 Trac is completely redesigned and has all the new features of the new explorer. Plus, sport trac owners have a good forum - a la Airwarriors - called mysporttrac.com that has some really good info....
