Through the slush
A C-130 Hercules taxis to its parking spot in Southwest Asia, on Dec. 28, 2012. Snow removal teams used specialized equipment to clear the runways and taxiways after an overnight snowfall covered the flightline with more than three inches of snow. So a snowplow then eh?

No, no, no - they used the newly-fielded JSRS(R). (Joint Snow Removal System (Replacement)).

It's just like a regular snow plow, but it's up-armored, has GPS, cost $938,000, has a 15 month MOS producing school to receive the required certification associated with it, and is broken 70% of the time.

The Marines continue to use shovels so that we don't get our snow plows wet/dirty that we got handed down from the army when they got their JSRS(R)s.

I believe there were attempts to make the JSRS(R) amphibious...

Ah yes, "Smoking can be hazardous to your health"! For the mighty Herc, not so much... but as Catmando (& his Avatar will attest), in No. Vietnam it was a AAA gunner's delight around the target. F-4 Phantoms (J-79), and A-4E (J-52) models were the problem "smokers". In my CVW-14 in '66. our Sqdn. VA-146 (A-4Cs - J-65) suffered a hit/loss rate approx. 1/2 that of our sister sqdn. VA-55 (A-4Es - J-52). It was estimated that on a clear day, the F-4s/A-4Es could be visually acquired by AAA gunners at 15+ miles, compared to 5-7 miles for A-4Cs.

Smoke-abatement systems were designed for both offending type/model engines, but the A-4s were just about phased out by A-7s before they could be installed. I don't know if the F-4s ever were retrofitted before the air war ended. Catmando?

Smoke abatement for the F-4 = min burner.
