That's what loss of SA for a sec will do to you, although it looks like he was chipping branches before that...his luck ran out.

Not once in that video did the pilot(term used loosely) seem to be in control of the aircraft. He was drifting all over the place, he was along for the ride as the aircraft took him to the crash site.

Not to mention, what in the hell was he doing following the road instead of making a vertical climb to clear the trees and then transition.

btw, what was that? MI-8?

My first thought was that this was one of those "I just built a helo in my garage and I think I know how to fly" A-Holes.

Brett

Yeah, I got that thought too...and then he was heading towards a road with traffic on it through a confined area...just didn't seem like he had a good gameplan...like skid said, he was just along for the ride.

MI-2 Hound

Give it a Google, but I'm pretty sure it's a late model Mi-2.

**Post-Post- Damn! Skid beat me to it..again, by 2 min :icon_rage

I was wrong it was an MI-2, but the NATO name is Hoplite, the hound is the MI-4, it seems even I am fallable

The old Soviet Mi-2,4, and especially 8 have big following in civil aviation, especially in the 3rd world. I enjoyed the shiny paint job on the one in the video.

There's a saying about aircraft--if it's ugly it's English, if it's weird it's French, and if it's ugly and weird, it's Russian.

True but tell you what's impressive, saw three Mi-26 operating as fire bombers in Greece from sunrise to sunset for five straight days and only one was down for half day because of a hyd. pump. Humungus machine...

...and incredibly reliable. The Mi26 can be flown for weeks without any serious maint.
